Review and Giveaway: Green Giant and Earth Day Spark

Earth Day has it's 40th Anniversary coming up on April 22nd and you may have begun to think of the little changes that you and your family can do to help protect the Earth this year.

For Green Giant, it’s all about trying to live up to the name by working every day to care for the land, the people who grow our vegetables and the families who share our vegetables at their tables. Throughout its century-long history, Green Giant has worked to reduce its environmental footprint through many measures including:

-Reducing the amount of land and water needed to grow vegetables
-Packing vegetables in smaller, lighter cans, so it takes less fuel to deliver them to supermarket shelves
-Utilizing traditional seed breeding methods over the last 35 years to double the amount of sweet corn grown on an acre of land
-Teaming up with growers to install a more efficient irrigation system that can reduce water use by more than a million gallons a year;
-Switching to more earth-friendly paperboard to package frozen vegetables, saving approximately 54,000 trees annually in the process.

Green Giant is now celebrating the 40th anniversary of Earth Day by giving $200,000 to The Nature Conservancy to help fund an innovative project that will encourage greener farming practices to repair and protect a natural treasure — the Root River, one of Minnesota’s (home to Green Giant) best trout streams.

I was sent a “Seeds of Change” prize pack that includes a VIP coupon valid for a free package of Green Giant frozen vegetables, a mini herb garden (yay!), an eco-friendly bamboo utensil set (very nice set!), and a 100% recyclable grocery tote (yay!).

ONE "Mommy? I'm Hungry!" reader will win a "Seeds of Change" prize pack also!

(This is a must before any extra entries will be accepted!)
1.
All you have to do is share what changes your family have made (or plan to make) in an effort to leave less of a carbon footprint.

*We try to recycle as much as possible. My kids know all cardboard boxes and such go in the blue can. I would love to find some bins to keep in the house to make it easier to remember and sort. I also use reusable shopping bags (and my grocery store gives me credit points for doing so too!). I recently participated in a webinar about composting (using bins), so that is something I'd like to try, once move to a house with a yard/space (we don't have much of one here).

Earn up to 4 extra entries by showing some "Mommy? I'm Hungry!" bloggie with these rules*!
-Please post yourself a separate comment for each, letting me know which ones you do.

  29. I am now recycling every piece of paper and cardboard at work, which is a lot since I have a desk job! I also turn the A/C and fans off when we aren't at home. My next step is to convince our apartments that adding recycle bins next to the trash bins would be helpful and better for the environment.
