Apothederm Skin Care Science Review

Apothederm Scin Care Science products launced earlier this year. Their patented SmartPeptides™ allow them to specifically target your areas of concern such as crow’s feet, laugh lines or stretch marks. These peptides give targeted results – they act as cellular messengers to help stimulate and restore critical functions.
I was sent their Apothederm Moisturizing Cream in their full size 1.7oz size. I can honestly say that I like this product, it does not irratate my skin, clog my pores or leave my face feeling greasy. Now, I did not use it every morning, just a good dose at night after my showers and I wake up with smooth soft, hydrated skin.

Hydrate your thirsty skin with our emollient-rich cream. Developed specifically for dry, aging skin, this cream nourishes, replenishes, and firms, helping to reduce visible signs of aging.

Here’s Why It’s So Effective
Our SmartPeptide™ technology targets fine lines, wrinkles and loss of firmness by stimulating collagen production. Emollient botanicals nourish and replenish the skin, and age-fighting vitamins neutralize damaging free-radicals. Shea butter, soybean oil and emollient moisturizers combine to hydrate and protect.

Experience the Benefits
-Neutralizes aging surface free-radicals
-Reduces appearance of fine lines and wrinkles

Green Valley Organics Lactose Free Giveaway and Review

Green Valley Organics Lactose Free yogurts, kefirs and new sour cream were created to help folks who are lactose intolerant enjoy all the health benefits and great taste of real dairy without the tummy troubles, bringing peace, love and dairy back into their lives.

From the makers of Redwood Hill Farm, a family-owned company committed to digestive health for more than 40 years, Green Valley Organics is a brand consumers can trust, made with organic milk that carries the Certified Humane Raised and Handled® label, which is considered the gold standard in third-party certification for humane animal treatment. Redwood Hill Farm and Green Valley Organics are the only dairy brands with Flourish, a custom blend of 10 live and active cultures that deliver millions of “good-for-you probiotics” in every spoonful.
Dedicated to protecting the environment and green open spaces, Green Valley Organics is a proud supporter of the Climate Protection Campaign, Sonoma Land Trust and Sonoma Land Paths. Visit GreenValleyLactoseFree.com for tips on living with lactose intolerance, great recipes and more information on Owner Jennifer Bice and the company’s wholesome products and earth-friendly business practices, including the recent installation of a new solar energy system at the Green Valley Organics creamery.

Below I will share one of their recipes great for Thanksgiving time. Green Valley Organics was kind enough to send coupons for their products, a Tshirt and an insulated shopping bag. I had planned to make a gluten free version of the pumpkin cake below, but sadly my store only carries 3 different flavors of their yogurt. That's it. No kefirs, sour creams or even plain yogurt. So my review will be on their blueberry and strawberry yogurt (I couldn't reach the vanilla flavor clear in the back of the top shelf). So check your store to see which products they do carry. I will honestly say that I really liked their yogurt, it is creamy, a thicker consistency (which I like in yogurts), these have the fruit at the bottom so you have to stir it.

Their yogurts come in Peach, Blueberry, Vanilla, Strawberry, Honey and Plain and are:
•Made with real dairy, lactose free
•Flourish® is our probiotic rich combination of 10 live & active cultures
•Less added sugar than many yogurts
•Kosher certified and gluten free
•Organic and delicious
•Certified Humane®

Find a store near you here. Follow along with them on Facebook and Twitter.

Recipe Rock Giveaway and Review

This Holiday, you'll be happy to get a rock in your stocking, a Recipe Rock. With more than 70 percent of cooks reporting they choose the Internet over cookbooks (ha, they must've seen my binders overflowing with printouts), Recipe Rock from Architec Housewares will be the perfect sous chef for all that holiday dinner prep work.

This small 2-inch, sculpted, concave “rock” simultaneously holds up to eight pages of printed recipes upright at the ideal viewing angle and prevents pages from sauce splatters and dirty hands. With its innovative new way to hold recipes and its $9.99 price point, Recipe Rock is the perfect stocking stuffer or last minute gift.

Recipe Rock is perfect for recipes from the Internet, magazines and even note-cards. And it is small enough to fit in a drawer or recipe box.
Recipe Rock is simple, practical and extremely easy to use. Just remove the metal ball from the magnetic rock, place the pages upright in front of the rock and replace the ball on the rock with the papers in between.
The Recipe Rock and other Architec Housewares products are available at Crate & Barrel and specialty boutiques.

I am so glad to get to review this. I have a TON of print outs but nothing to hold them as I'm cooking. This comes in so handy. It works great, hold it at a nice level for easy reading. It says it holds up to 8 pages, but my printer paper is kind of thick so it only held a few, but really I only need it to hold one at a time. It's a great little size, about the size of a small apple, I just worry the kids will run off with the little ball.

Molton Brown’s Thai Vert Fine Liquid Hand Wash: Holiday Review

Luxury Holiday gift sets, bath, body & hair care products from Molton Brown. Made in England from natural ingredients.

Molton Brown’s Thai Vert Fine Liquid Hand Wash is infused with Kaffir lime leaves and Grenadan virgin lime oil, essentially thai inspired luxury for your home. With anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties, Thai Vert Fine Liquid Hand Wash is the perfect soap for any kitchen or bathroom. The scent is a beautifully subtle way to rid hands of any less than favorable odors that cling to them during food prep.

Kaffir lime leaves, grown in Thailand for their uplifting aroma and tangy flavor contain powerful anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties, naturally toning, antiseptic and actively deodorizes the skin. The virgin lime oil is cold-pressed from the rinds of fresh limes grown in Grenada, West Indies also has excellent cleansing and toning properties.

Molton Brown offers bath and body products, gifts, hand wash and grooming, hair products, men's grooming, scented candles and fragrance. My PR chose to send my the Thai Vert hand wash because I cook and the Kaffir lime leaves contain deodorising properties and the lime oil from Grenada has powerful cleansing and purifying properties. Well, I love the idea of it taking away that fresh chopped onion smell, however there is a scent in this hand wash that I do not agree with. It's almost a masculine or Patchouli scent and too strong for my sense of smell. It does come in a very decorative bottle to match any decor and I like that it's clear, you can see the hand wash color, this is a light green color.
Here they are sold in Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, or you can check for your area or order online. They are sure to have something for your special someone this holiday. Follow along with them on Facebook.

Organic Bistro and Helen’s Kitchen Giveaway and Review

Organic Bistro®, responsible for a wide array of wholesome, frozen meals featuring nutrient-rich ingredients, is introducing a new gluten-free seafood entrée with sustainably-caught wild Alaskan salmon in a homemade pesto sauce.

Ideal for health-conscious consumers seeking a convenient and gourmet meal experience, the wild salmon is accompanied by a chickpea pilaf rich in whole grains, along with fresh, organic zucchini and green beans. The entrée is high in protein and fiber, low in sodium, made with organic ingredients, and free of GMOs, trans fat, MSG, antibiotics and steroids.

Organic Bistro sources all of its seafood from Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified fisheries and Wild Alaskan Salmon was rated Best Choice by Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch®.

This new entree has recently become available in specialty and natural food stores across U.S. for an SRP of $6.49 per 10oz package.

Organic Bistro Whole Life Meals are here to help you maintain your momentum by eating better and feeling well, even in the middle of your busy day. Every single-serving frozen meal is balanced with the best sources of lean protein, fiber-rich whole grains, plentiful vegetables and healthy fats. Their wholesome ingredients keep their flavor because they’re unprocessed. So their recipes taste great without added salt and artificial flavors. Additionally, their meals are low-glycemic , gluten-free and based on smart nutrition science .
For a store near you, check here.

I was offered to try the Organic Bistro Wild Alaskan Salmon but unfortunately my health food store was out of stock (it must be good), and only had a few select other entrees to choose from. I chose to try the Ginger Chicken, with green tea glazed vegetables and almond pilaf. Honestly this was not bad for a frozen meal, the flavors tasted great. Organic Bistro meals are all gluten free.

I was also offered to try Organic Bistro's sister brand Helen’s Kitchen burritos. Again my store had just a few select varieties of any of their meals and since I had just gone gluten free, I went with their gluten free Cheese Enchilada, which by the way has tofu pieces in it and covered in a red spicy sauce. To be honest, I wasn't crazy about this one, not enough cheesiness inside, a little spicy for my likes and the tofu was strange to me in cheese enchilada (and I like tofu). Not all of Helen's Kitchen products are gluten free so be sure to double check. They also carry burritos, meat alternatives and (meal) bowls.
For a Helen's Kitchen store near you, check here.
You can also find more information on the Organic Bistro Facebook page and the Helen’s Kitchen Facebook page.

Make The Bread, Buy The Butter Cookbook Giveaway and Review

I like to cook and bake from scratch, but I admit some things you just have to buy. I cannot for the life of me make a loaf of french bread as you'd get from the bakery. I can make dinner rolls, but I cannot get hamburger rolls to come out either. Soups from the store have a lot of sodium in them and they are so easy to make why not make them from scratch? I've made ice cream and had great results that are just as good as the store bought version without all those added ingredients.

So when Jennifer Reese lost her job as a book editor for Entertainment Weekly, she set out on an ambitious, often outrageous, culinary journey. Is “doing it yourself” always cheaper? Jennifer had her doubts.
Make The Bread, Buy The Butter Cookbook tells the often hilarious stories surrounding these kitchen-related experiments and offers a full picture of what is involved in a truly homemade life. Reese asks a handful of practical questions about each item to decide whether to make or buy: What’s the ultimate cost? How much of a hassle is it to make? And what about sustainability and animal welfare – what value should we place on knowing that our eggs came from happy chickens. Is it somehow ennobling to slaughter your own Thanksgiving Day turkey? Each recipe she tells you whether it's best to make it or buy it, or even both. Here are some suggestions:

Make it:
Pancakes
Chocolate cake
Guacamole
Eggs benedict
Hummus
Dill Pickles

Buy it:
Hot Dogs
Corn dogs
English muffins
Ice cream cones

Jennifer Reese has been a professional journalist all of her adult life, working mostly for national magazines, and has been an avid, adventurous home cook for even longer, which she blogs about at the Tipsy Baker (tipsybaker.com) as well as for online publications like Slate. Reese also teaches cooking classes in Marin County, California, where she lives with her family.

Like her on Facebook at www.fb.me/thetipsybaker. Follow her on Twitter: www.twitter.com/jenniferreese

Well having gone gluten free myself, I decided to make her Chicken and Rice Soup. She says it's best to make it homemade. It's so simple, makes a lot and send a wonderful aroma throughout your home as it simmers away on the stove. Simple boil a whole chicken with onion (I threw in some carrots and celery for added flavor), simmer it for 2 hours, then add rice, a couple of eggs and lemon juice. It is delicious and perfect for our rainy day we had.
