Pitaya Plus Drinks Giveaway and Review

Pitaya Plus launched in January 2011, and have hit the shelves in over 100 Whole Foods country wide. They are also carried in other local, natural food stores including here in San Diego, where their headquarters is located.

What is Pitaya? More commonly known as the Dragon Fruit, it is a low-calorie, low sugar, superfruit that is packed with antioxidants and fiber. It  is currently the lowest sugar juice on the shelves at Whole Foods Market. Their juice is blended with a touch of lemon and coconut water as well, making it not only super nutritious, but extremely hydrating as well. It is also perfect for kids because it has all the nutrition, and barely any sugar.

We found Pitaya Plus to be refreshing, not sweet like other juices and the hint of the coconut water came though in taste. Even though the kids didn't seem to care much for it, I liked it.

There are two very noticeable differences between Pitaya from Central America and Pitaya (or Dragon Fruit) that comes from Asia. When you cut open most of the Pitaya from Asia, you will discover that it is very white on the inside. However, when you cut open a Pitaya from Central America the inside is a dark red magenta. The white varieties from Asia tend to be very bland and do not carry a lot of nutrients. However, the Pitayas from Central America have what some would describe as an earthy strawberry-raspberry taste. Cheerios Cheer‏ Giveaway and MyBlogSpark Review

We received our Cheerios Cheer package and right away tried out the cool cereal dispenser. The kids love it. It fits perfectly under our cupboards on the counter tops and they can serve themselves. You can fill it pretty much any dry food (candy is pictured on it) but no way, no candy. haha

We cut out the postcard wrote a CHEERful message and it's on it's way. Oh and I just love love love the yellow ceramic bowl, it's too cute.

My Memories Suite Scrapbook Software Giveaway and Review

My Memories Suite Scrapbook software is great for scrapbook layouts, photo books, cards, videos. Now let me just say that I am in no way crafty, I don't scrapbook or use any of those digital scrapbooking software...but this program was so easy for me to use. But because it's great for almost anything, I decided that I would make our girls some racing fan cards. We go to local events throughout the year and it'll be nice to hand these out and help spread the word of the race track we have here. You can see my work in progress there, I used a premade layout and added elements (staples), a background and text. You can edit the photos as you add them make them bigger, smaller, crop, move...like I said it's very easy. Once I had my design final, I saved it to my files then had it sent off to a 1 hour photo place o print 4x6 photos of it. They came out perfect. Now I plan to work on a new header for my blog. I'm having fun with this My Memories Suite.

Below I will share one of their recipes great for Thanksgiving time. Green Valley Organics was kind enough to send coupons for their products, a Tshirt and an insulated shopping bag. I had planned to make a gluten free version of the pumpkin cake below, but sadly my store only carries 3 different flavors of their yogurt. That's it. No kefirs, sour creams or even plain yogurt. So my review will be on their blueberry and strawberry yogurt (I couldn't reach the vanilla flavor clear in the back of the top shelf). So check your store to see which products they do carry. I will honestly say that I really liked their yogurt, it is creamy, a thicker consistency (which I like in yogurts), these have the fruit at the bottom so you have to stir it.

SOUR CREAM PUMPKIN BUNDT CAKE
from Green Valley Organics

A surprise filling of brown sugar streusel makes this pumpkin-flavored cake a special treat. Save a bit of icing for drizzling over each serving of this wonderful cake.

Streusel

•½ cup packed brown sugar

•1 tsp. ground cinnamon

•¼ tsp. ground allspice
•2 tsp. butter

Combine brown sugar, cinnamon and allspice in small bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender or two knives until mixture is crumble.

Cake
•3 cups all-purpose flour
•1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
•2 tsp. baking soda
•1 tsp. salt
•2 cups granulated sugar

•1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened

•4 large eggs

•1 cup 100% pure pumpkin

•8 oz Green Valley Organics sour cream

•2 tsp. vanilla extract

1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and flour 12-cup Bundt pan.

2. Combine flour, cinnamon, baking soda and salt in medium bowl. Beat granulated sugar and butter in large mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add pumpkin, sour cream and vanilla extract; mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture.

3. To assemble: Spoon half of batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle Streusel over batter, not allowing Streusel to touch sides of pan. Top with remaining batter. Make sure batter layer touches edges of pan.
4. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in cake comes out clean. Cool for 30 minutes in pan on wire rack. Invert onto wire rack to cool completely. Drizzle with Glaze.
Glaze

Combine: 1 ½ cups sifted powdered sugar and 2 to 3 Tbsp. orange juice or milk in small bowl; stir until smooth.

Estimated Times: Preparation - 12 minutes; Cooking - 55 minutes. Yields 12 to 16 serving

I am so glad to get to review this. I have a TON of print outs but nothing to hold them as I'm cooking. This comes in so handy. It works great, hold it at a nice level for easy reading. It says it holds up to 8 pages, but my printer paper is kind of thick so it only held a few, but really I only need it to hold one at a time. It's a great little size, about the size of a small apple, I just worry the kids will run off with the little ball.

Boy this review could not have come at a more better time. The sickies have hit our home the past week so I was able to give Hyland’s Cold ‘n Cough 4 Kids a try. My 4 1/2 yr old sounds like a frog with his cold and cough so he's been getting regular doses (1 tsp/every 4 hrs) and even my 14 yr old takes it for her cough (3 tsp/every 4 hrs) as directed. I love that it's an all natural product, sugar free and a multi symptom formula, with colds you get it all. There's no smell and they don't cringe when tasting it so that's good. Let's hope they get well soon.

I was offered to try the Organic Bistro Wild Alaskan Salmon but unfortunately my health food store was out of stock (it must be good), and only had a few select other entrees to choose from. I chose to try the Ginger Chicken, with green tea glazed vegetables and almond pilaf. Honestly this was not bad for a frozen meal, the flavors tasted great. Organic Bistro meals are all gluten free.

I was also offered to try Organic Bistro's sister brand Helen’s Kitchen burritos. Again my store had just a few select varieties of any of their meals and since I had just gone gluten free, I went with their gluten free Cheese Enchilada, which by the way has tofu pieces in it and covered in a red spicy sauce. To be honest, I wasn't crazy about this one, not enough cheesiness inside, a little spicy for my likes and the tofu was strange to me in cheese enchilada (and I like tofu). Not all of Helen's Kitchen products are gluten free so be sure to double check. They also carry burritos, meat alternatives and (meal) bowls.
