Arthur Aguirre’s America’s Best Barbecue Cookbook Review


Barbecue lovers will want to fire up the grill once they get a whiff of the mouthwatering and original recipes featured in Arthur Aguirre’s America’s Best Barbecue.

Aguirre holds the honored position of pit master in the Major League Grillers. His team has won nearly twenty awards in its first two years of BBQ competitions, including Grand Champion at the Soybean Festival in Mexico. Now he’s dishing out the secrets to his prize-winning recipes for ribs, pit-fired poultry, brisket, and pulled pork dishes, not to mention delectable rubs, glazes, and sauces. So fire up the grill, and be sure to make extra: once that smoke starts wafting across the neighbor’s yard, you’re going to have to share.

Arthur Aguirre is a BBQ enthusiast who not only loves to eat what he cooks but also obsessively takes pictures and writes about it on his blog, www.majorleaguegrilling.com. His unique BBQ has led to many of his recipes’ being published online. Moreover, his successful BBQ team, Major League Grilling, has won nearly twenty awards (including Grand Champion) in his first two years of competition.


I cooked us up Arthur's recipe for Sausage Kabobs that uses his MLG BBQ Rub and MLG Barbecue Sauce. I added some par boiled potatoes to make this meal filling. Have you ever grilled potatoes? YUM! The rub was delicious and the bbq sauce as well, Mr. kept commenting how good it smelled as it was cooking. I think I'll be making more of this sauce again!


MLG Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 small yellow onion, chopped
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1/4 cup bourbon (use a gluten free one)
1/2 tsp Hungarian paprika
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

Instructions
1. In a saucepan on medium heat, combine the orange juice and candy. Put the lid on and cook until the candy is melted down.

2. Add remaining ingredients into the saucepan, then mix well and reduce the heat to a simmer for 15 minutes. Sauce is done when it thickens.

3. Let the sauce cool and store it in a glass jar, refrigerated, until ready to use.

This MLG Barbecue Sauce makes plenty to keep in the fridge for another day. I made grilled chicken thighs with some leftovers. Delish! Mr. kept raving about it. Must've been the bourbon in it.
