With March being “National Nutrition Month”, Eggland’s Best (EB) is helping me host an egg-citing, nutritional brunch for a few of our friends and their families this weekend. Egg-land's Best eggs were developed for people who want to eat healthy, but still want great taste. Eggland’s Best eggs are nutritionally superior to ordinary eggs. Eggland's Best eggs are higher in Vitamin E, Omega 3 and Lutein and lower in cholesterol and saturated fat than ordinary eggs.
What makes EB eggs superior to ordinary eggs?
a) 25% less saturated fat
b) 2x more omega-3 fatty acids
c) 3x more Vitamin B12
d) All of the above
Answer: d
Did You Know?
Vitamin B12 is important for healthy protein metabolism, as well as cognitive, cardiovascular and nervous system health. The most important function of vitamin B12 is to form healthy red blood cells, which may help prevent heart disease.
I plan to have 19 of us here (kids & parents) and I'm super excited! I'm used to doing the big Holiday dinner so this is a cinch, menu wise. I've got quite an assortment of goodies to munch on and most I can start the night before, so that keeps it easy on me. I would love to have cooked up some eggs or omelets, but I need food that can stand to sit out for a bit and be ok so they may not seem so nutritious, but at least they'll have EB eggs in them! I will be posting these recipes on my Recipe Blog shortly after so check back for those.
The Menu will be:
-French Toast Bake
-Breakfast Casserole w/ham & sausage
-Mini Crustless Ham & Egg Quiche’s
-Ham and Egg Quiche Biscuit Cups
-Blueberry Muffins
-Cinnamon Rolls
-Fresh Fruit Salad
-Boiled eggs
-Deviled eggs (yeah!)
-OJ
-Chocolate milk
-Coffee
What difference did consumers and chefs say they noticed when using EB eggs versus ordinary eggs?
a) EB yolks are plumper, richer in color and creamier
b) EB egg dishes taste better
c) EB egg dishes come out more consistent
d) All of the above
Answer: d
Did You Know?
Animal fat is commonly used in feed for hens producing ordinary eggs, but not EB hens.
Animal fat has an objectionable odor and detracts from the flavor of eggs. It also raises
the saturated fat level of the egg yolks.
Eggland's Best sent over a big care package for my Brunch, including coupons for myself and to hand out to my guests, 2 goodie bags with EB treats inside (I plan to draw names and have some sort of trivia with them), a gift card to help with my menu, and a really cool Flip video camera so I can film some of my brunch event with you all!
I'm excited to try out these eggs, I've never even had an Eggland's Best egg before, Have you? They sound amazing! I will have to do a side by side comparison of them to an ordinary egg in my next post.
True or False: It’s more nutritious to only eat the egg whites
Answer: False
Did You Know?
The majority of nutrients can be found in the yolk. Research has shown that people who ate up to 12 Eggland’s Best eggs per week experienced no increase in their total serum cholesterol or LDL (“bad”) cholesterol when compared to a group who did not eat eggs. In fact, both groups reduced their serum cholesterol by approximately the same amount.
