Earnest Eats Superfood Blueberry Chia Cups Review

We found Earnest Eats at a little store here, my oldest bought a canister of their oats. I saw it says wheat free on it so I became intrigued and wanted to know if they had gluten free items as well, because the oats did not say they were gluten free. I contacted them wanting to be sure and they replied back saying they do carry gluten free oats and would send some! How gracious of them! I also love that they are here in San Diego.

Earnest Eats uses whole food ingredients that provide exceptional nutrition and extraordinary flavor.
Crafted with the goodness of organic oats, premium almond butter, nuts, seeds and fruits, their foods supply the protein, fiber and omega 3s the body uses to power itself efficiently. No spray-on vitamins or protein powders to bulk up the nutritional label: just simple, delicious food.

Superfood Blueberry Chia Cups are Oats, Quinoa, Amaranth and have 7g Protein & 6g Fiber are NON-GMO Certified, Vegan, Gluten-Free certified, Soy-Free & Dairy-Free.

Find Earnest Eats near you, check their store locator! Follow along on Facebook and Twitter.

They sent us a great little package of goodies. Inside were energy bars in delicious sounding flavors, chewy granola bars, a canister of their American Blend of oats and of course their Superfood Blueberry Chia Cups for me. Please note the only gluten free items are these Superfood Blueberry Chia Cups.

a side by side comparison of ingredient for their oatmeals, the right are the gluten free blueberry cups.

These little cups of deliciousness are just great! They have a hint of cinnamon which pairs nicely with the blueberries and other fruits you add. I loved these so much I made some up for my early morning work day and some to take for lunch later on. They held up nicely.  (and my juices ready to go too)

Barbecue lovers will want to fire up the grill once they get a whiff of the mouthwatering and original recipes featured in Arthur Aguirre’s America’s Best Barbecue.

Aguirre holds the honored position of pit master in the Major League Grillers. His team has won nearly twenty awards in its first two years of BBQ competitions, including Grand Champion at the Soybean Festival in Mexico. Now he’s dishing out the secrets to his prize-winning recipes for ribs, pit-fired poultry, brisket, and pulled pork dishes, not to mention delectable rubs, glazes, and sauces. So fire up the grill, and be sure to make extra: once that smoke starts wafting across the neighbor’s yard, you’re going to have to share.

About the Author
Arthur Aguirre is a BBQ enthusiast who not only loves to eat what he cooks but also obsessively takes pictures and writes about it on his blog, www.majorleaguegrilling.com. His unique BBQ has led to many of his recipes’ being published online. Moreover, his successful BBQ team, Major League Grilling, has won nearly twenty awards (including Grand Champion) in his first two years of competition.

I cooked us up Arthur's recipe for Sausage Kabobs that uses his MLG BBQ Rub and MLG Barbecue Sauce. I added some par boiled potatoes to make this meal filling. Have you ever grilled potatoes? YUM! The rub was delicious and the bbq sauce as well, Mr. kept commenting how good it smelled as it was cooking. I think I'll be making more of this sauce again!

MLG Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients
1/2 cup unsalted butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 small yellow onion, chopped
1/2 green pepper, chopped
1/4 cup bourbon (use a gluten free one)
1/2 tsp Hungarian paprika
1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

Instructions
1. In a saucepan on medium heat, combine the orange juice and candy. Put the lid on and cook until the candy is melted down.

2. Add remaining ingredients into the saucepan, then mix well and reduce the heat to a simmer for 15 minutes. Sauce is done when it thickens.

3. Let the sauce cool and store it in a glass jar, refrigerated, until ready to use.

There's delicious flavors in this MLG BBQ Rub!

This MLG Barbecue Sauce makes plenty to keep in the fridge for another day. I made grilled chicken thighs with some leftovers. Delish! Mr. kept raving about it. Must've been the bourbon in it.

I decided to try it more, that whole shirt was very wrinkled. I wanted to see the whole shirt wrinkle free so I sprayed it all over again and left it overnight. WOW!

Then I wanted to see it on a 100% cotton item, something that gets really wrinkled. Something I'd hate having to iron. I pulled out a nightgown and sprayed it down and again left it overnight. LOOK AT IT!! WOW!

I am sold on this! We don't travel much otherwise I'd be packing this in my bag to spray on clothing fresh out of the suitcase. I liked it so much, that I even shared a bottle with a friend's mom who does travel.

Make Your Summer “Naturally Amazing” with French's Mustard: Recipes and Review

Just in time for the summer grilling season, there’s some exciting news about mustard. In addition to adding a lot of flavor to summertime favorites, mustard is also good for you! French’s, America’s favorite one-hundred-plus year old brand, wants people to know that they have and always will be 100% natural and that mustard has some “Naturally Amazing” health benefits, too.

As individuals continue to seek out products that are “all natural” and demand transparency from their favorite brands, French’s reminds us that mustard is not only a beloved condiment, but a flavor-packed ingredient we can feel good about eating.

Grilling remains a favorite cooking method because it’s quick, easy and delivers distinctive flavor without the fat. Grilling is also one of the healthiest food preparation methods you can employ and with French’s tips for great summer grilling recipes that incorporate mustard, you’ll enjoy the double benefit of recipes that taste great and are nutritionally sound, as well.

French’s is made from #1 grade stone ground mustard seed, has zero calories and no fat. It packs a lot of enjoyment in the yellow bottle that for French’s begins with whole mustard seeds mixed with a blend of select herbs and spices.

Mustard actually dates back thousands of years to the early Romans, who ground mustard seeds and mixed them with wine to create a paste very similar to the mustard we use today. In addition to being one of the oldest condiments, mustard has long been revered for its health benefits. Did you know that:

- Mustard contains selenium which is touted for its anti-inflammatory properties

- Mustard is also high in antioxidants which benefit cells by protecting them from free radicals

- Mustard is a good source of magnesium which has been shown to have a positive impact on reducing pain associated with migraines

- Mustard contains niacin which can lower cholesterol levels and reduce plaque accumulation in the arteries as well as protect against hypertension (high blood pressure)

With French’s family of mustard flavors like Classic Yellow, Spicy Brown, Honey, Honey Dijon, Dijon with Chardonnay and Horseradish, you can reap the healthful benefits of mustard while creating a variety of exciting summer recipes such as Super Juicy Chicken. It’s so easy, just coat chicken with mustard sprinkle with your favorite dry rub, grill and enjoy. French’s Mustard seals in the flavor and juiciness for a delicious dish that’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.

Dole Cherry Crumble Cake & Chocolate Brownie Cherry Ice Cream #TeamDole #GetFrozen

This post was created in partnership with Dole. I have received compensation for this post. Updated below:

Would you like to join the Team Dole consumer advocate program and receive great opportunities as well? I encourage you to click on over and check it out.

I was to make a recipe using their frozen fruit. I knew I wanted a crumble of sort but saw this sort of coffee cake recipe instead. I decided to give it a try using Dole's Dark Sweet Cherries.

Dole Cherry Crumble Cake
adapted from Fork and Beans

Dry ingredients:
•2 c. gluten-free flour blend (in my crust post)
•3/4 c. sugar
•3 tsp baking powder
•1 tsp xanthan gum
•1/2 tsp salt
•12 oz bag Dole Dark Sweet Cherries, frozen
•zest of 1 lemon

Wet ingredients:
•1 cup milk
•1 Tb apple cider vinegar
•4 Tb oil

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8x8 pan.
2.Mix milk and vinegar together and allow to sit for 5-7 minutes to sour.
3.Combine all of the dry ingredients together (minus the cherries and zest). Whisk well. (mine came out super thick)
4.Pour oil into soured non-dairy milk and pour into dry ingredients.
5.Fold in berries and lemon zest.
6.Pour into desired pan/dish and top with pistachio cardamom sugar topping (recipe below).
7.Bake 55 minutes or until knife is clean when inserted in the middle

Almond Cardamom Sugar Topping:
•5 Tb butter, chilled
•1/3 c gluten-free flour
•1/4 c brown sugar, packed
•1/4 c sugar
•1/3 c almonds, dry roasted, unsalted, roughly chopped
•1/2 tsp ground cardamom

1.Combine sugars, flour and cardamom together.
2.Add butter until a sand-like crumble forms.
3.Add almonds.

I am sad to say MY cake did not turn out so great. I had to bake it well past an hour and even then it seemed unbaked but glued together and rubbery and tough. Oh, the woes of gluten free baking! I loved the cherries in it, so next time I'd use a favorite coffee cake recipe and add them in and use this topping too, that was good.

*UPDATE*

I have decided to give these Dole frozen cherries another chance, well a different recipe another chance. The cherries were great, the cake wasn't so. I decided to make ice cream this time! I made a spin off of Elle's Mocha Toffee Brownie Chunk Ice Cream. I'll call it Chocolate Brownie Cherry Ice Cream.

You'll want to make the espresso and brownies ahead of time. The espresso coffee is a flavor enhancer, it won't taste like coffee ice cream. For the gluten free brownies, I used the Krusteaz Gluten Free Double Chocolate Brownie Mix from Costco. Also if you have dark cocoa use it, I only had the regular so the chocolate flavor was mild. This ice cream reminds me of a black forest cake, yum!

This ice cream came out fantastic!! My  kids kept saying it's the best homemade one I've made yet! Big chunks of cherry and brownie, yum!!

Chocolate Brownie Cherry Ice Cream
Makes roughly one quart, Adapted from Ben and Jerry's & Elle

2 cups heavy cream
1 cup milk
3/4 cups sugar
1 tbsp plus 1 tsp cocoa powder (Hershey's Special Dark if you have it, I didn't)
3 tbsp espresso coffee, DIVIDED
2 eggs
1 1/4 cups (gluten free) brownie chunks (about 1/2 - 1 inch cubes)
1 1/2 cups Dole Dark Sweet Cherries, frozen, cut in half

Start by cutting the brownies into chunks. Set aside, and then cut the cherries in half. Place in the freezer to chill while you work on the ice cream.

In a medium bowl, whisk the cream, milk, sugar, cocoa and 2 tbsp of the espresso. Make sure all of the sugar is dissolved before you proceed. Whisk the eggs in a smaller bowl until light yellow in color. Pour the eggs into the cream mixture and blend well.

Transfer the mixture to your ice cream maker and follow manufacturers instructions for freezing. Just as the ice cream is finishing up it's freezing thing, add the remaining 1 tbsp of coffee, and the brownie and toffee chunks. Let those mix in, and then transfer the ice cream to a container to finish freezing.
